Kent Martin

Kent Martin is currently General Manager at Axis Theatre Company in Vancouver, British Columbia. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Kent embarked on a career in arts administration in his hometown of Toronto. He began as the Administrative Assistant to the General Manager and then assumed the role of Promotions and Programming Coordinator at the civically-owned St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. Kent continued to work in the performing arts industry as Executive Assistant to the CEO at the Hummingbird Centre, Toronto's premiere performing arts centre; Interim Administrator, Performing Arts at Harbourfront Centre; and Company Manager for the Canadian musical NAPOLEON. In 1999 Kent moved to Vancouver and worked as Front of House Manager at the University of British Columbia's Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. In 2000, Kent shifted his focus to production management and joined Axis Theatre Company as Associate General Manager and, in the fall of 2003, became the General Manager. Now in its 35th year, Axis Theatre Company produces original, thought-provoking, physical theatre works. One of Axis Theatre's most celebrated productions THE NUMBER 14 has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia for the past 18 years.

Currently, Kent sits on the Board of Directors as Co-Secretary with a local non-profit organization Vancouver Professional Theatre for Young Audiences Society (producing the annual Spring Break Theatre Festival). He is also on the Selection Committee of the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) Annual International Showcase and is on the ASSITEJ Canada Steering Committee. Recently, Kent was part of a Canada Council Advisory Committee to create an online touring and Presenter's Guide: www.artsontour.ca. Kent also participated in the national meetings of the Canadian Alliance of Presenters and Producers of Theatre for Young Audiences. He was a Board member for community-based service organizations in Vancouver: Alliance for Arts and Culture from 2001-2003 and A Loving Spoonful from 2001-2004.
